Thanks to amendment of the Act on the Inspection and Investigation of State Administration, this year the National Assembly planned to conduct two parliamentary inspections. Up until now, there has been a single inspection which lasted up to 30 days. To promptly respond to this change and aid the effective performance of national assembly members, the National Assembly Research Service (NARS) published the 2014 Inspection Report on July 29, a month earlier than last year.

This report reviews administration policy enforcement, law, and ordinances, identifies issues which need improvement, and addresses 618 current and emerging topics.

For foreign affairs and security, issues such as 'Enhancement of the U.S.-Japan Alliance and the Diplomatic Response of the Republic of Korea,' 'Issues on the Postponement of the Switch of Wartime Operational Control,' and 'The Amendment of the Agreement for Cooperation between the Governments of the Republic of Korea and the United States of America concerning the Civil Use of Atomic Energy' were pointed out.

Among public administration and judiciary issues were 'Problems on the Classification System of Public Affairs between Central Government and Local Government Offices,' 'Problems on the Regulation of Local Public Institutions,' 'Problems on the Audit System for Local Governments,' 'Improvement Plan for the Management of Mental Health of Firefighting Officers,' 'Problems on the Reinforcement of Responsibility Management of Major Shareholders,' 'Need for the Duty of Passive Disclosure under Insurance Policies,' and 'Independence of the Sentencing Commission of the Supreme Court of Korea.'
