Joint Discussion on Reform Tasks for the National Assemblyfor Building a Hard Working National Assembly”
  On Thursday, June 11, the National Assembly Research Service (NARS) and the Democratic Party Working Group for ‘A Hard-Working National Assembly’ (headed by Han Jeoungae, Member of the National Assembly) co-hosted a seminar titled ‘Reform Tasks for the National Assembly for Building a Hard-Working National Assembly’ at Seminar Room #2 of the Members’ Office Building.

  The purpose of this seminar was to develop in-depth discussions regarding the reform tasks for the 21st National Assembly, which is kicking off a new 100 years of parliamentary activities.

  MP Han Jeoungae (Democratic Party of Korea) presided over the discussions, while MP Cho Eungcheon (Democratic Party of Korea) gave a presentation on the first topic, ‘Reform Tasks for the National Assembly for Building a Hard Working National Assembly’, and Counsel of Politics and Administration Research, You Woongjo (NARS) delivered a presentation on the second topic, ‘A New 100 years of Parliamentary Activities: Cooperation and Integration’.

  Following the presentations, Professor Park Sangchul (Kyonggi University), Professor Kim Seon-taek (Korea University), Professor Chon Jongik (Seoul National University), and Mr. Hwang Ho-taek (Former Editor in Chief of Dong-A Ilbo) actively participated in the comprehensive discussion session as representatives from academic and media.

  Through the participants’ lively discussion on specific reform tasks—cooperation and integration, power of the legislation and judiciary committees’ to examine the system and wording of legislative bills, establishment of a permanent National Assembly, specification of National Assembly meeting dates, fast and in-depth review of bills, separation of the National Audit and Regular Assembly, enhancement of the operation of the Special Committee on Ethics, and improvement of the revision of Special Committee on Budget and Accounts—practical measures for improving the National Assembly emerged.
