
On Tuesday, September 4, the National Assembly Research Service and the National Assembly Peace on the Korean Peninsula Forum co-hosted a seminar on 'Establishment of a Peace System on the Korean Peninsula and the Roles of the National Assembly'. The event was held at Seminar Room 3 of the National Assembly Members' Office.
Robert E. Kelly(professor at Busan University) and Lee Keun(professor at Seoul National University) delivered presentations, which were followed by discussion among scholars Roland Wilson(professor at George Mason University), Hong Hyun-ik(Head of Department of Diplomatic Strategy Studies at the Sejong Institute), and Choi Gyung-hwan(Party for Democracy and Peace).
Professor Robert E. Kelly identified and evaluated strategies for a peace system and related domestic agenda, as well as suggested tasks to meet the challenges that the Korean government and the National Assembly are facing in resolving the North Korean nuclear issue.
Under the title 'Main Agenda on Changes in the Relations between North and South Korea and the Direction for South Korea's Response to the Changes', Professor Lee Keun shared his analysis on the progress, limitations, prospects and tasks of the negotiation on the denuclearization of North Korea.
Presenters and discussants engaged in lively discussion on measures to reach complete denuclearization and establish permanent peace on the Korean Peninsula and the roles of the National Assembly in those processes.
