On Thursday, February 22, the Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis (Supreme Assembly) of the Republic of Uzbekistan, along with delegates, visited NARS. Among the delegates were Vice Chairman of the Jokargy Kenes of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Atadjan Khamaraev; Chairman of the Committee on Information and Communication Technologies of the Legislative Chamber, Ilhom Abdullayev; and Member of the Committee on Defense and Security issues of the Legislative Chamber and Director of the Legislation and Parliamentary Research Institute (LPRI), Rahim Hakimov.

Speaker Nurdinjon Ismailov visited the NA at the invitation of National Assembly Speaker Chung Sye-kyun. It was the first visit by the Speaker of Uzbekistan in 11 years. It was all the more meaningful for NARS as it was the first visit by the Speaker.

Dr. Lee Nae Young, Chief of NARS warmly greeted the delegation and gave a brief introduction of NARS. Mr. Rahim Hakimov, director of the LPRI, described the work of the counterpart institution and gave a presentation on “The New Phase of Democratic Reforms in Uzbekistan.”

After the presentation, a MOU signing ceremony between NARS and the LPRI was held with the intent to develop cooperative relations between the two organizations. NARS expects this visit by Speaker Ismailov and the MOU signed with the LPRI will further bolster cooperative ties between the two institutions.
