On Tuesday, March 13, NARS held its first 2018 Advisory Committee meeting at the National Assembly special guest room.
Fourteen members of the committee, including Chairman Ahn Byeong-ok (Professor at Kongju National University) and 12 senior staff members, including Dr. Lee Nae Young, Chief of NARS, attended the meeting.
Chairman Ahn provided greetings and opening remarks, along with notice of the change of members. After Chief of NARS and other committee members gave their remarks, Park Tae Hyung, Director General of NARS, briefed everyone on the plan for 2018. Various questions and suggestions from the members were presented as well.
Among the suggestions were increasing personnel and enhancing cooperation with outside experts in response to the dramatic surge in legislative requests and related workload. To make a new leap forward in the next decade, members also suggested further study be conducted on several topics including the fourth industrial revolution and the current situation in Northeast Asia.
Responding to the suggestions, Dr. Lee said, “Along with the stronger authority and responsibility of the National Assembly there is a growing need for its leading role and professionalism. We will make sure to reflect your advice and strengthen our capabilities to fulfill its responsibility as a research arm and to continue to support the National Assembly to respond to citizens’ expectation and become a productive venue.”
