The National Assembly Research Service (NARS) plans to hold a monthly seminar on 'Now, Time for Civic Virtue' year-round in 2015. This seminar aims to lead the movement of restoration of civic virtue based on traditional virtues - filial piety, and the four cardinal virtues (humanity, justice, propriety and wisdom) - starting from the National Assembly and eventually spreading to the public.

Last December, Speaker Chung Ui-hwa hosted a seminar on 'Korea in Crisis: Charting a Way Out through Cultivating Civic Virtue.' Also, the Act on Promoting Civic Virtue Education has been passed by the standing committee.

The first seminar of the Civic Virtue series was held on January 30. It dealt with 'Civic Virtue and Ethics for Public Officials', which has received significant attention following the MV Sewol ferry disaster in April 2014. The second seminar, which took place on February 25, discussed 'Public Consciousness: Citizenship Education Is the Key.' During the seminar to promote civic virtue education, NARS signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Joong Ang Character Education Center of the Joong Ang Ilbo (Korea Joong Ang Daily). Following the MOU, on March 25 NARS jointly hosted the 3rd seminar with the center on 'Overcoming Challenges to Financial Industry Advancement: Promoting Ethical Awareness in the Financial Industry'.

NARS is offering more diverse seminars on politics, economy, society and culture in Seoul and the provinces on a rotational basis.
