On September 16, the NARS (led by Chief Koh Hyun-wook) jointly held a seminar on Plans to Protect the Rights of Crime Victims and to Prevent Retaliatory Crimes with the National Assembly Human Rights Forum (led by Representative Hwang Woo-yea).

The seminar was held to address the recently increasing retaliatory crimes leading to social problems. During the seminar, participants examined the current status and trends in retaliatory crimes and the current systems for victims of crimes and witness protection and came up with different legislative improvements.

Park Sang-ki, professor at Yonsei University Law School, served as a moderator. Kim Hong-yeul, secretary general of the Center for Victims of Crimes in Eastern Seoul, gave a presentation on the Current Retaliatory Crimes and Its Implications, while Kim Dae-geun, researcher at the Korean Institute of Criminology, explained about the Problems and Improvements for the Current Victims of Crimes and Witness Protection System. Following the two presentations, experts from the field including Lee Hye-mi, legislative researcher of the Legislation and Judiciary team, shared their views on the current retaliation.

A number of parliamentarians including Hong Il-pyo, Vice-Chairman of the National Assembly Human Rights Forum, and Saenuri Representatives Chang Yoon-seok, Kim Je-sik, and Bak Maeng-woo also participated in the seminar, adding to its constructiveness.
