- Three key pillars including National Assembly's role in preparing for Korean unification-

On January 17, 2014 at the policy briefing to the Speaker of the National Assembly, the National Assembly Research Service introduced its three key pillars, emphasizing the importance of convergence and field studies for the coming year: 1) provide in-depth legislative research, 2) conduct proactive research on current issues, and 3) strengthen research analysis capacity.

NARS pledges to increase satisfaction of its services by improving timeliness, enhancing expertise, and institutionalizing feedback. Moreover, to strengthen proactive research services, NARS promises to publish reports by converging different perspectives and carrying out field-based studies. NARS also has mapped out plans to offer diversified parliamentary services which further enhance its role as a legislative support arm of the National Assembly.

Especially through proactive research on major policies and issues of the government, NARS aims to help realize a policy-driven National Assembly. Through maximizing individual ability and institutionalizing better evaluation system it pledges to gain expertise.

Briefed about NARS's direction, Speaker Kang Chang-hee shared an anecdote of a recent Chinese shrimp supply to EU markets and added that "Even a small mistake could be critical . . . . People should not pass by the little things to look for larger work to become one of the top global think tanks."
