NARS Holds '2020 Legislative and Policy Proposal Contest Award Ceremony'
On Tuesday, May 4, at 10am, the National Assembly Research Service (NARS) held the ‘2020 Legislative and Policy Proposal Contest Award Ceremony’, which had been postponed due to changes in quarantine measures related to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Following the epidemic prevention guidelines of the National Assembly, the award ceremony was held both offline and online. The first prize (National Assembly Speaker's Award) winning team (two participants) and second prize (Chief of NARS Award) winner were awarded in person, while excellent proposal prize winners (nine teams) were awarded online.

To develop and discover novel ideas which can be used as legislative and policy materials, NARS held the ‘2020 Legislative and Policy Proposal Contest’ and received 138 policy suggestions (from a total of 123 participants) from October 19 to November 13, 2020. The first review was conducted by appropriate departments, and the second review by the proposal review committee. These policy suggestions were first reviewed by appropriate departments and then by the proposal review committee. Accordingly, first prize (National Assembly Speaker’s Award) was awarded to the proposal titled “Three Step Policy for Supporting Adolescents as Victims of Domestic Violence,” and second prize (Chief of NARS Award) was awarded to the proposal titled “Enactment of National Exemption Act.” Excellent proposal prizes were awarded to nine other teams.

First prize winners Bae Ye-rin and Park Sang-hyun said in their award remarks that society and policies need to help the victims who alienate themselves from the environment. Second prize winner Kang Young-joon said that he hopes for the enactment of the National Exemption Act and to contribute to protection of citizens’ rights.

NARS published ‘2020 Legislative and Policy Proposal Contest Award Collection’ and also posted it on the website (www.nars.go.kr.) so that anyone can read and utilize the proposals.

NARS will continue to hold this contest to help make people's voices heard and reflected in legislations and policies.
