On Monday, June 14, the National Assembly Research Service (NARS) held a ‘NARS Advisory Committee Appointment Ceremony’ at seminar room #430. This advisory committee was established in accordance with the ‘NARS Advisory Committee Bylaw’ and committee members were newly formed as former members’ term expired as of May 31.

  Dr. Kim Man Heum, Chief of the National Assembly Research Service, kicked off the ceremony with his greetings, which was followed by a brief introduction of each member. After receiving their certificates of appointment, members had a chance to get acquainted with each other.

  Composed of 15 experts from legislative and policy research institutes and government organizations and academia, the advisory committee includes Kim Kyung-hwan (Professor, Sogang University), Lee Inyong (Senior Advisor, Kim & Chang), and Baik Chang-jae (Professor, Seoul National University).

  NARS Advisory Committee is expected to respond to requests from the Chief and give suggestions on functions of NARS. Specifically, the committee is to ① investigate, analyze, and respond to matters requested by committees or members of the National Assembly; ② conduct research and studies concerning legislation and policymaking and provide information thereon; ③ collect, manage, and distribute materials related to legislation and policymaking’ ④ provide information to National Assembly members’ research groups; ⑤ analyze foreign legislative trends and provide information thereon; and ⑥ respond to any further inquiries referred by the chief of NARS.
