From April to June 2021, the National Assembly Research Service (NARS) held its monthly forum ‘NARS Perspectives and Discussion.’
This forum invites top experts in various fields for the purpose of facilitating expert discussion to promptly identify and approach critical issues that could affect state affairs and the country’s future. After presentation, forum-style discussions are held with experts at NARS in order to derive legislative and policy implications from the issue.
Each forum is moderated by the Chief of the National Assembly Research Service and includes presentation from a top expert and designated discussion from a relevant expert and a NARS legislative research officer.
The fourth forum was held on Wednesday, April 28. Invited expert Im Hyug-baeg (Professor Emeritus of Political Science & International Relations at Korea University) spoke on the theme “New Challenges and Tasks of Democracy.” The forum sought ways to spread democratic values and achieve institutional consolidation as there are signs of democratic regression and threats to democracy around the world.
The fifth forum was held on Wednesday, May 26. Invited expert Kim Kyung-hwan (Professor of Economics at Sogang University) spoke on “Principles and Challenges for Trusted Real Estate Policies.” Principles and tasks for requisite policy management to stabilize the real estate market were discussed as Korea is currently experiencing housing instability due to a recent surge in real estate prices.
The sixth forum was held on Wednesday, June 30, with You Myoung-soon (Professor of Seoul University Graduate School of Public Health) speaking on “Changes in Life and Values in the COVID-19 Era.” The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has impacted people’s perceptions, emotions, and behaviors, as well as their values and life goals. This forum explored the reality of the changes and presented challenges to help people return to normal life.
