 On May 17, the National Assembly Research Service (NARS) held an all-day seminar on 'UN SDGs Convention on Climate Change and the Role of the National Assembly' at the Members' Office Conference Hall #2.

The meeting was co-hosted by the National Assembly UN SDGs Forum (Chairman Kweon Seong Dong), Member's office of Kim Kyung Hyup (Democratic Party of Korea), Member's office of Lee Tae Kyu (People's Party), Korea Legislation Research Institute (President Rhee Ik Hyeon), Korea Association of International Development and Cooperation (President Lee Heejin) and Korea Civil Society Network on SDGs. The goal of the seminar was to review implementation measures on SDGs and the Paris Convention on Climate Change and to seek improvement on policies and legislative agendas.

In his words of encouragement, National Assembly Speaker Chung Syekyun emphasized "The 'UN SDGs' and 'Paris Convention on Climate Change' will be one of the top national agendas, thus cooperation among National Assembly, government, and civil society is critical than ever."

The seminar was divided into five sessions. During the special session, Kim Kyung Hyup, (Member of the Democratic Party of Korea), and Lee Tae Kyu (Member of the People's Party) participated as speakers. The general session was opened for research institutes, academies, and civil society.

During the special session Kim Kyung Hyup and Lee Tae Kyu addressed how UN SDGs could work more efficiently and effectively in Korea, and sought to improve the role of the National Assembly.

The general session discussed 'The Significance and Implementation Development of the SDGs' in session one and 'Implementing UN SDGs in Economic and Social Arena' in session two. Session three and four focused on 'Environmental Issues in UN SDGs and Implementing Conventions on Climate Change' and 'Major Issues in UN SDGs Governance', respectively.
