On Friday, December 10, NARS signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the United Nations Research Institute for Social Development (UNRISD) via virtual meeting.
Amid global issues such as overcoming infectious diseases, climate change, and applying new technologies, this MOU was a meaningful and timely event as NARS, a parliamentary research institute, and UNRISD, an international research institute, promised to interact and cooperate with each other on common interests.
NARS has signed MOUs and held joint seminars with the National Diet Library of Japan and the European Parliamentary Research Service (EPRS) and has maintained a close relationship with both. UNRISD is the 10th international organization that NARS has signed an MOU with.
Under the agreement, both institutes will work together on ① sharing and exchanging research ideas and strategies; ② creating opportunities for research staffs’ capacity building; and ③ working collaboratively on joint research, reports, and policy briefs of mutual interest.
During the signing ceremony, Chief of NARS Kim Man-heum said that “Topics under the UNRISD Strategy 2021–2025; Transformative Social Policy, Gender Justice and Development, Alternative Economies for Transformation, Environmental and Climate Justice, Translating Research into Policy and Practice, are research topics which NARS is also putting focus on today.”
He added that “As we both share common interests, I am confident that we can achieve positive synergy through active information exchange, joint seminars and staff exchanges.”
