NARS Holds Its 1st-3rd NARS Perspectives and Discussion
From 2021, the National Assembly Research Service (NARS) will hold a monthly ‘NARS Perspectives and Discussion’.

‘NARS Perspectives and Discussion’ invites presentations from top experts in various fields for the purpose of facilitating discussion with experts in order to quickly identify and understand important current issues that could affect state affairs and the country’s future. After presentation, forum-style discussions are held with experts at NARS in order to derive legislative and policy implications from the issue.

Chief of the National Assembly Research Service moderates each meeting discussion while the top expert presents the topic, and an expert in that field, together with a NARS legislative research officer, takes part in designated discussions.

The first forum was held on Wednesday, January 27, inviting Yoon Young-kwan (the former Minister of Foreign Affairs) under the theme “The Biden Government and the Korean Peninsula Peace Process.” The forum touched upon various issues regarding the opportunity and risk factors of establishing a peace process on the Korean Peninsula following the launch of the Biden government.

The second forum was held on Wednesday, February 24, with Lee Je-min (Professor Emeritus of Economics at Yonsei University) invited to speak on the theme “Global Economic Outlook in the Post-COVID Era and the Direction of the Korean Economy.” This forum evaluated South Korea’s economy in the midst of the global economic crisis caused by the US-China trade war and the COVID-19 pandemic, with countermeasures emerging from the discussion.

The third forum was held on Thursday, March 25 and focused on “Data-based Digital Society,” with Yoon Sung-roh (Chairperson of the Presidential Committee on the Fourth Industrial Revolution, PCFIR) as the invited speaker. This forum explored ways to safely and meaningfully utilize data as the world rapidly moves toward a data-driven digital society, as well as ways to strengthen competitiveness.

In accordance with the government’s epidemic prevention guidelines, participants are kept to five people, with partitions between participants and mask-wearing protocols followed at all times. People interested in the forum are able to participate in real-time via Zoom.

For further public exposure of each issue, recorded contents of the forums will be posted via NARS’s SNS accounts.
