
On February 23, NARS held its 11th Civic Virtue Seminar on "Environment and Civic Virtue" at the K-water headquarters building main auditorium in Daejon. This event was jointly sponsored by the National Action Network on Civic Virtue Based Education (Executive Director, Ahn Yang-ok), K-water (CEO, Choi Gye-eun), and Daejon Ilbo (CEO, Nam Sang-hyun).
This seminar was held to discuss ways to cultivate eco-friendly civic virtue that would become the foundation for symbiosis between humans and nature and sustainable development and to provide a platform to reinforce environmental education. It began with a keynote speech on the necessity of coexistence and symbiosis of humans and nature from Director Choe Jae-chun of the National Institute of Ecology.
Professor Choi Ji-yong (Seoul National University) served as a moderator, as Kim Jun of NARS Environment Labor team opened up the event with his presentation on the topic of "Developing Eco-friendly Civic Virtue to Pursue Life, Sympathy, Consideration, Justice and Fairness." President Ha Seong-ryong (Korean Society for Environmental Engineering), President Han Sang-jin (Korean Society for Environmental Sociology), Professor Lee Jae-young (Kongju National University), Chief Editor Kim Ik-soo (Hwankyung Ilbo), Co-president Park Jae-moon (Korea Federation for Environmental Movement), and other preeminent experts from related fields took part and participated in fruitful discussions.
This seminar was attended by Speaker Chung Ui-hwa, Chief Lim Seong-ho of NARS, CEO Choi Gye-eun of K-water, Executive Director Ahn Yang-ok of the National Action Network on Civic Virtue Based Education, and distinguished guests.
