On November 13, NARS and the Korean Development Institute (KDI) jointly hosted the 10th Civic Virtue Seminar on the topic of "Rational Choice of Economic Behavior and Civic Awareness: Focusing on Economic Education" at the NARS Main Conference Hall.
This seminar was held to discuss the importance of civic virtue-based economic education in the Korean economy as well as to provide a vision for economic education that fosters civic awareness of each economic actor.
Professor Kim Wan-jin of the Economic Department of Seoul National University served as moderator and Shim Jae-hak (Director General of KDI Economic Education) presented on the topic of "Fostering Civic Awareness through Economic Education." During the general discussion session, Cho Hong-gyun (Head of Economic Education Management Team, Bank of Korea), Oh Heung-seon (Director General of Secretariat of Youth Finance Education Council), Kim Na-young (Teacher of Yang-jeong Middle School in Seoul), Kim Dong-joon (Director General of Planning and Coordination Office, Ministry of Strategy and Finance) and Kim Sa-woo (Director of Public Finance and Economic Team, NARS) participated as panelists and offered diverse ideas on the vision of economic education to cultivate civic awareness.
Speaker Chung Ui-hwa attended and offered his congratulatory remarks on the hosting of the 10th Civic Virtue seminar while emphasizing the necessity of values such as "integrity, fairness, transparency" in economic behavior. Chief of NARS (Dr. Lim Seong-ho), through his opening remarks, emphasized the need to strengthen public interest and civic awareness in economic education that until today focused on individual's rational choice.
