Category - Issue Brief
Recently, food insecurity has arisen as an issue because of limited access to food particularly for the socioeconomically disadvantaged population. Food insecurity in household due to poor diet, insufficient and imbalance of nutrition state and skipping meals. It is predicted that there is concentrated low income household. However, situation is a difficult because food consumption welfare indexes does not exist.
Welfare index of expenditures on food consumption is a need to re-evaluate the Engel's coefficient and income quintile share ratio(s80/s20 ratio).
This report was calculated quintile magnification food costs and modified Engel coefficient and food consumption expenditure quintile share ratio using the data of the household survey. Food cost includes the cost of eating out.
Suggestion that the results obtained with the help of both indices is as follows.
First, the index of the Engel's coefficient is evaluated continuously about 20%tile household income, including eating out costs must be managed as a welfare indicator of the consumption of food in particular.
Second, looking at the growth rate of the difference between 80tile of the Engel's coefficient with 20tile household of food costs past 10 years.
Third, we have to manage the quintile share ratio of food costs, including groceries, and eating out costs.
Food consumption welfare indexes that have been developed, it is necessary to monitor the continuous verification.
