NARS and NHIS Sign Memorandum of Understanding
On September 1, 2023, the National Assembly Research Service (NARS) and the National Health Insurance Service (NHIS) signed a memorandum of understanding for the two organizations to promote collaboration in information sharing that seeks to improve the nation’s health care system; cooperation in conducting joint research to develop the national health insurance and long-term care insurance for the elderly; and cooperation in joint research that uses the big data of the national health insurance and many other related fields.

NARS Chief Park Sang Chul pointed out that the NHIS big data is an objective and empirical indicator that can be utilized to examine the quality of life of the public, and thus useful not only for designing health care policies but also for studying a wide range of fields. Given that many and diverse ideas arise regarding the health insurance system and long-term care insurance for the elderly, President Jung Ki Suck of the NHIS expressed his hope to find optimal policy alternatives by conducting joint research with the NARS.

Along with NARS publications like Implementation of the Two Stage Reorganization of the Health Insurance Premium System and its Future Tasks, Discussion and Issues for Imposition of Health Insurance Contributions on Private Pension Income, and many other health insurance related reports, the organization releases about 250 policy reports regarding state affairs annually. Together with joint research using the NHIS big data, the NARS will continue to produce high quality policy reports to support legislative activities.
