On Tuesday, June 13, the National Assembly Research Service (NARS) hosted a seminar on 'North Korea's Nuclear and Missile Threat and South's Responses' at the seminar room #2 in Members' Office building.

This seminar was held to analyze and evaluate North Korea's nuclear and ballistic missile capability and to discuss South Korea's responses to such provocations.

Chung Sye-kyun, Speaker of the National Assembly, said in his congratulatory speech, "I hope this seminar will be a meaningful experience for all of you to accurately measure North Korea's nuclear and missile capabilities and to examine ways to react to North's provocations." Chung went on to say "To tackle North Korea's nuclear issue, the National Assembly will seek to enhance communications with the government and citizens. Furthermore, both ruling and opposition parties will work hard to gather public opinion on policy towards North Korea."

Dr. Lee Nae Young, Chief of the NARS, served as a moderator. Shin Won-shik (professor at Korea University, former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and former chief of the Capital Defense Command) discussed 'South Korea's Response to the Latest Missile Provocation by North Korea', and Park Jong-seung (Head of 2nd Guided Weapons System at the Agency for Defense Development) gave a presentation on 'North Korea's Missile Capabilities'. Joining the panel for discussion were Rhee Cheol-hee (Member of the Democratic Party of Korea and member of the National Defense Committee of the National Assembly), Kim Jong-dae (Member of the Justice Party), Lee Seung-hyun (Legislative researcher at the NARS), and Kang Won-sik (professor at Catholic Kwandong University, former Ambassador of Korea to Belarus).
